Terrific day on the local patch!

Following a pre-dawn start for a bit of planet-watching, I decided to take advantage of the crisp weather for a walk around Strumpshaw and Buckenham.

In the woods the famous tree stump was being visited by a Nuthatch, while a confiding Treecreeper fed nearby. Little else to report, apart from the regular Buzzards over the woods, so I carried on to Buckenham.

First photo-op was a Peregrine perched in a dead tree by the corvid roost: later on it dropped to the ground to sunbathe near a very brave Pheasant! On the Cantley side a large flock of Pink-footed Geese held two Beans, while a decent group of White-fronted Geese were associating with Canadas. Several Little Egrets came close and a Buzzard kept an eye on the Golden Plover flock...

On the walk back to Strumpshaw I came across a male Bullfinch in the hedge and a Mistle Thush on the horse pastures. All in all a terrific walk that highlighted once again the fabulous potential of the Yare Valley.
