A run around Strumpshaw Fen

My birding chum Brian is a Voluntary Roving Ranger (or some such) at the Fen: his 'day' being Tuesday, I thought I'd pop along and see if he'd braved the weather. He had!

We took a walk out to Fen and Tower Hides, then back round again, picking up some decent views of many of the regular birds and insects, including Reed Warbler, Marsh Harrier, three Hobbies, Norfolk Hawker and lots of Black-tailed Skimmers. Near reception a very wet Sparrowhawk put up with aggression from a pair of Jays for a while before seeing them off with their metaphorical tails between their legs!
