Bearded Tits at Strumpshaw Fen.

It's all about patience and perseverance! A few people I've met recently have maintained that Bearded Tits are 'very difficult' at the Fen: while this can be true in the Summer, it's certainly not the case in the Autumn and Winter months. The reedbed to the west of the Sandy Path is the place to be, but you need to aim for a seven thirty arrival and be prepared to stick it out until perhaps ten. You can chat (the Beardies really don't mind!) drink a flask of tea, photograph any of the Fen's special birds that might fly over: at some point they'll come pinging in and allow the best views in Norfolk! Obviously still, sunny mornings are best and, on a frosty December day, they might even come onto the path to forage for grit and reed seeds...

Today several groups put on a show: apart from a flock of Pinkfeet there was little else around today. Ben Lewis picked these up over Brundall with his naked eye: the man has robotic vision - even through binoculars they were just a smoky blur in the distance! When they came yelping over the Reception Centre they were a lot easier to enjoy!
