Red Kite roost at New Holkham

On our way back to the Hotel from Titchwell, we stopped at New Holkham to look for Red Kites. As we approached the back entrance to Holkham Park along the Wells Road, we began to see Kites drifting in from all directions until an obvious congregation built up over the five way crossroads just north of Branthill Farms. Others have seen up to eighty birds, but our total was around 30 - 35. One seemed to have a bad case of feather mites.

Absolutely fantastic to stand on a quiet Norfolk road and watch these beautiful raptors wheeling overhead...

We really enjoyed our couple of days at the Nelson, rounding off my birthday evening with a bottle of Prosecco, courtesy of our great friends Sue and Peter.
